Whether you are an Indian or not, Makki Ki Roti (Corn Bread) & Sarson Ka Saag (Mustard Leaves) is one Punjabi authentic dish that will make your mouth water and is a must-try at our restaurant. Although this dish is winter’s best friend, it is nourishing all through the year!
Mustard greens have high quality and quantity of antioxidants. They are also packed with disease-fighting, energy-boosting, and heart-healthy nutrients. These greens are known for delicious taste as well as contain a great source of calcium, folic acid, magnesium, and vitamin K. Though raw mustard greens are a bit zesty, they mellow down after cooking and taste yummy.
Makki Ki Roti is rough and round Punjabi bread that is made of corn. It is baked on a Tava (pan) and has a soft as well as hard feel. The name Makki Ki Roti is a literal translation of the ingredients, “bread of maize,” but in the Punjabi language.
Makki Ki Roti & Sarson Ka Saag is one of the specialties of Zayka. As Keshav, the owner & manager, takes a personal interest in his dishes, he goes to the market to fetch fresh Sarson ka Saag (mustard leaves) for this preparation.
Our Chef, Srabjit Singh prepares Sarson Ka Saag by boiling mustard leaves and then, adding his special spices with tomato, green chili, and ginger. Its aroma during the cooking process is quite tempting! Finally, it is garnished with some clarified butter, better known in India as, “ghee.” Of course, you can add more butter as per your liking.
